- Do you have a handle on your subscriptions? Unfold was a subscription that was useful in these parts and slipped through being renewed the past two or three years. This year the renewal will not occur as there are better options and other features that were part of Unfold that don’t seem worth the cost.
- It took four months of X-Box Game Pass Ultimate renewals to be noticed and finally be cancelled in this household. Typically this one is auto renewed but the teenager who uses the account is failing three of five classes, two classes have exceptionally bad marks so X-Box privileges do not exist for them.
- Lurking on the horizon is a sports subscription that was a gift last year. In that year the main property that was attractive about this subscription has moved to another service. With money being more rare, keeping this subscription seems a luxury that cannot be afforded. Streaming services have a way of slipping under the radar monthly but even with their fee increases and more of them coming online they have to be more than a one trick pony.
- One trick that works comes from Amazon Prime. That is auxiliary streaming services going on sale for Black Friday, Boxing Day and Prime Day. Services that might be $7.99 or $9.99 will instead be $1.99 for three months. It works as more eyes hit these services for a few months and the renewal gets forgotten and thus continues or smart shoppers come back during deal season.
- Reddit, what a sleeper website/service. It is a fountain of information as long as you are good at discerning the good from the bad or even the attempts at humour. It might not be the bright shiny social media flavour of the week but revisiting it after a few years away provides the same experience. Content might not be rapid but it is current. You will not lose a day on Reddit having rapid fire updates, at least not with the forums frequented in these parts, but daily or every second day brings fresh content. Reddit is not a mash your refresh button type of service.

- Customer service is dead… We purchased a couch and chair from a national chain locally and they did everything but try to keep us happy. So returned the couch and chair and will figure out something in the coming days. This story though generated thousands of views on Threads, generated no interest on Bluesky or Twitter. Funny enough five different people posted the same response about this national chain having been bought by another national chain in the past decade, coincidentally the other national chain was our first choice. Neither outlet carried any stock and it took weeks for the stock to arrive in one choice was going to be three months and another choice was seven to eight weeks. https://www.threads.net/@terrymassey/post/DD5hz_CPC8b?xmt=AQGzZrSYlrzofzog5HZ5ug7kTDsVeEVCoucW6zqR5NG3zw
- Before SEO and search engine rankings how you named your business was the benchmark. While walking the dog a company vehicle with the name A-1 on the door sparked this memory. When telephone books were an annual delivery with yellow pages, these pages either a separate volume or at least twice the thickness of the white pages. How you legally named your business determined where you would land in your business category in the phone book. A pizza place was named AA Pizza, well next year you’d see AAA Pizza and so on. It only got confusing if it was a contractor and you need to write them a cheque to pay them.
- In the province thirteen letter is based there is a crown corporation in charge of producing a phone book. They also are a marketing agency and compete in business practices a government owned subsidy shouldn’t, but that is another story. Was that direct enough DirectWest?
- People love lists… This is the time of year for lists for EVERYTHING. Logitech produced a list that was interesting as it was not ranking based but their breakthroughs of the year and it went beyond products and included their social impact. It was a nice touch over “here is our stuff buy it!” type lists.
- One list read weekly in these parts is by Billy Oppenheimer, he releases the Six at 6 on Sunday. It is based around one theme every week and he brings some amazing creative ideas back to the central theme. It is so well done, take a look https://billyoppenheimer.com/december-29-2024/
- It is a central belief a changing calendar from one month to another or from one year to another should not be the basis for changes or resolutions. Pick a random day and make the change and then stick to it. Is it easier to make this change January 1 like so many do? Possibly, but change whether small or large is hard, it is why people do not readily accept when things change. If you need the change, just start. If you have to start again, start again, start as many times as you need to. Some of the greatest successes known to humankind have failed more times than they have succeeded, but the success is in trying.
- Goals, goals are only words if you never work towards them.
